Shift to High Speed with SmartWrite
While many people thought 16x would be the maximum writing speed for DVD, Lite-On boosts writing speeds up to 24x with the introduction of the World's fastest DVD rewriters powered by SmartWrite.
SmartWrite is a so called Auto Write Strategy (AWS) technology developed by Lite-On. SmartWrite automatically creates writing strategies for unknown, or unsupported, DVDħR media. With SmartWrite you have an exciting overspeed function. You can write high quality DVD+R and DVD-R media at a maximum of 24x*.

Available in the 22x series:
iHAS422 internal DVD rewriter with SmartErase, SATA connection, and LightScribe
iHAS322 internal DVD rewriter with SmartErase and SATA connection
iHAP322 internal DVD rewriter with SmartErase
In the 20x series also available:
When SmartWrite is enabled, the drive will try to write to your DVD+R and DVD-R media at a higher speed than it would normally be supported at. To do this, overspeed relies on SmartWrite. When a disc is written at a higher speed than normal, SmartWrite will automatically create a new writing strategy for it.
Even if you are not interested in overspeeding, SmartWrite offers many other benefits, because SmartWrite is also a savior of poor quality media. Many people unfortunately, do not realize that not all blank media are created equally. Quality differences exist between brands of media. To cope with these differences a DVD drive keeps an index of supported media and their write strategies in its firmware. If a blank disc of a lesser-known brand is not indexed in a firmware burning this disc may give a poor result. Your hardware is not faulty, but it simply cannot handle the media. SmartWrite brings a solution to this problem.

For each particular writing session and for each used brand of media, SmartWrite optimizes the writing strategy and automatically memorizes this strategy for every recordable media the drive has ever burned. Through this self learning mechanism you can make good quality burns with all media including cheap no-brand media without the need to update firmware. Simply enable SmartWrite, insert your disc and burn. The new writing strategy is then created during the burn process.
To enable the SmartWrite function, download the Lite-On Smart-Burn tool here. Open the program before you begin your burn and select enable Hypertuning to allow SmartWrite to optimize the write strategy. Enable overspeed to allow SmartWrite to write the discs at higher speed.
SmartWrite also works with supported media. When enabled, the drive will ignore the writing strategy stored in the firmware and instead create a new one. This is very useful, because sometimes a media manufacturer may have made changes to its production process, influencing the quality of the produced media. SmartWrite can store up to five writing strategies in its memory. With each new burn, these writing strategies are further optimised until the maximum possible writing speed is achieved.
