Eindhoven, The Netherlands - Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions (PLDS), the joint venture between Philips and Lite-On that is responsible for the Lite-On branded Optical Disc Drive (ODD) business, expands its 20X DVD writer portfolio with a drive that incorporates LightScribe technology and a Serial ATA interface. Both features have already been introduced on separate DVD drives. Currently, there are 20X Lite-On drives available in the market with SATA connection or LightScribe technology, but so far no combination of these two appreciated features. Now, Lite-On combines both features in the new LH-20A1L, making it a very complete DVD writer.For creative and professional users, the LightScribe function is an appreciated addition. LightScribe is a disc labeling technology that allows users to burn a custom made label on a disc, utilizing the same laser that burns the data. It gives the discs a creative and professional look.
For the advanced computer enthusiasts, Lite-On offers a 20X DVD writer with SATA connection, which improves performance significantly compared to Parallel ATA (PATA) you find on most current DVD writers. The SATA connection eliminates potential information and performance "bottlenecking" by offering at least 150 MB/s data transfer rate.
Like all of Lite-Ons 20X DVD writers, the LH-20A1L incorporates Lite-Ons owns SmartWrite technology. This technology allows the DVD writers to overspeed certain 16X media to 20X. Besides overspeeding to the highest possible writing speed, SmartWrite technology is also well appreciated for its quality improvement for low-quality media. It optimizes the writing strategy for unknown media brands in order to get the highest quality results possible.
The LH-20A1L is available form September in Europe for an estimated price of EUR 49.
